Freedom of expression is freedom of movement
“The subjects were covered comprehensively, in depth and in an accessible way.” – Simon
What to Expect
“Establish the centre, root through the base and build the posture from there.”
Yogafurie teacher trainees learn this as a mantra – a method of framing any asana. Taught in this way, the student arrives in the right position with the right support in place. This module asks: OK, these steps work for any posture and any body… but how? Understanding how our animal frame implements these instructions will inform your physical practice in an entirely new way, and enhance all of your movement.
In this module, you’ll meet fascia as the pervasive, connective network that integrates muscle, bone and mental intention into movement, to arrive at form and structure. We are just starting to understand fascia, its role in movement and how it influences immune response. Did you know that fascia creates a body-wide information highway previously completely unknown to medicine? We’re Yogis and this module asks: can we consciously interface with the intelligence of fascia? We’ll look at how breath and breathing relates to this experience.
Movement practitioners need to understand body reading – that is, have an ability to assess where a body is taking weight and where it compensates in different positions. You’ll practise body reading and learn simple interventions to improve movement response – for yourself and others.
You’ll learn about the structural pathways fascia creates inside. These fascinating structures bear a changing load while we move. They also change in response to our actions. Deeper knowledge will help you identify imbalances in your own body and in others. You’ll understand the pathway to balance.
This is a practical course, but we will share the key details about the chemical and electrical structure of fascia. This knowledge is invaluable – and very new. It will help you change stuck movement patterns that limit postures. True freedom of movement is possible: you just need to understand the pathway to it.

All of our movement study and development is based around Yoga asana. The asana are all essentially body gestures, much like any others. There’s a lot for you to learn and absorb and apply to your own movement paradigms, and much of it is communicated through the expression of Yoga asana.
The radical message of the study of fascia is that the outcome of movement is no more important than the feeling of the movement. Those who move easily gain a wealth of experience by understanding how they move. Learn to switch away from performing movement (which comes easily) to experiencing it. It’s a big challenge because most of us have been educated in a goal-oriented way. But exploring the felt sense is an exciting journey away from execution of movement, and into a conversation with the body.
“If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get the same results you’ve always got”. This quote underlines that a new approach can make a significant difference. This course will show you new ideas and concepts with bodywide implications for movement quality. You’ll learn to apply this information to real bodies – including your own. Your creativity will unlock the rest as you put your learning into practice, and go to work on yourself.”
Movement science – and its application in Yoga – have been at something of a standstill, but new research into fascia has opened up new avenues of practice. By understanding these ideas and how to apply them, you might reverse unhelpful movement patterns that currently restrict you. However, joints do have their own range of motion and no two people are the same. The truth is that if you don’t try to unlock your body, you’ll never know. This course can help you build and refine that careful approach that both respects and challenges the body.
This module is formally assessed. Upon successful completion of the study period and the assessment, you’ll earn 50 CPD hours to add to your professional teaching profile. You can choose your method of assessment from these options:
- Design a 3 hour workshop for Yoga practitioners that focuses on the study topics. You will need to submit your workshop plans, a selection of feedback from attendees, and a report describing how you integrated your new knowledge into the content.
- Prepare a 3000 word case study describing how you’ve used your new knowledge and skills in an attempt to help yourself or someone else. Your case study will outline the initial conditions for your chosen subject: how this person (or you) was feeling, what they (or you) considered to be significant challenges etc. You’ll describe practices that you selected to assist. This should feature mostly Yoga asana or related breathing techniques, but can include other styles of movement. You’ll justify why you think these practices might help, and over what period they were applied. Your case study will include a short report on the outcome: your candidate (or you) will describe how they now feel about their significant challenges and what has changed for them. Your report will feature your personal conclusion: why do you think the stated outcome arose? What direction would you take your work in next? It doesn’t matter if your candidate reports that the practices don’t work: it’s more important to look at the reasons why the outcome might have arisen, and state what can be learned from this.

Yogafurie’s 300 hour Advanced Training offers you the breadth of technique (not just the physical), and supports your adaptation and evolution through them.
