What To Expect From Yoga Teacher Training

Yoga teacher training is a logical next step if you’re looking to deepen your Yoga practice, or encourage others to practice Yoga.

Regardless of why you want to do Yoga Teacher Training, it’s a considerable financial and time commitment. That’s because Yoga Teacher Training is more than learning about postures. There’s a huge amount of information in a wide range of subjects to learn.

People who take Yoga Teacher Training find the experience challenging, but also find they experience a shift in their priorities.

This is a life changing journey, it’s ultimately about being the best person you can be.

We’d like to give you a feel for what to expect when you embark on our 200 hour Yoga & Hot Yoga Teacher Training course, so here’s a list of key things in store for you.

You Get Physically Stronger

This is an obvious one, but you’ll increase body strength and flexibility as you’ll be doing extensive asana practice each day of training. As you work through the philosophical concepts, poses you find difficult will come with ease. Your teacher will also introduce you to more complicated poses to challenge your practice further.

When you notice your posture improving and muscles toning you’ll feel that good kind of soreness. Your strength and fitness will progress like never before.

Deepen Your Yoga Technique

A good proportion of your time will be spent on asana practice. You’ll partner up with your fellow student and learn to adjust each others’ pose. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to support anyone’s physical practice regardless of their body type.

You’ll also deepen your practice spiritually. Yoga consists of eight limbs, asana practice being one of them. You will explore meditation, mindfulness, pranayama and other ancient systems that lead to transcendence. You have a greater chance of achieving transcendence when you move beyond asana practice.

You’ll Feel Challenged

There is a lot to learn in 200 hours but with the right Yoga Academy, you’ll be greatly supported throughout this learning journey. The curriculum introduces you to a wide range of concepts which tend to click into place as the course progresses and your learning deepens.

If you’re not used to studying abstract subjects such as philosophy, they can feel strange in the beginning. It’s important to suspend judgement temporarily and trust that your understanding will unfold as you continue to practice. As you grow more comfortable with new ideas, your confidence will grow.

You’ll Learn There Is More To Yoga Than Asanas

yoga teacher training is challenging

Asana practice is one of eight yoga limbs. On this course you will explore the other seven limbs. Teacher training also covers the history and philosophy of yoga, meditation, mindfulness, Sanskrit, and bodywork. It’s a holistic journey that will have a profound impact on you. By the end of the course, you will notice that you are able to respond differently to certain situations.

But, of course, asana practice is integral. To prevent injury and teach correctly, you must understand what is happening to a person’s body when they do yoga. If you want to do teacher training for personal growth, a detailed understanding of anatomy, physiology, and fascia will enhance your practice too.

You Will Make New Friends

you develop a sangha

One of the greatest gifts you’ll discover from yoga teacher training is your new training buddies. You’ll be sharing your yoga teacher training journey with other like-minded yogis. Your colleagues on the course will become your ‘sangha’ or your learning community as you’ll support each other through the highs and lows. It is most probable that this connection with your new peers will continue in much later life. Like old friends, you can feel free to be yourself with your sangha.
